Our mission is to provide affordable, secure, financially and environmentally sustainable housing for people on low incomes, primarily in the South and East of Melbourne who are committed to cooperative democracy and engagement.


The services provided by SouthEast define its reality as a housing co-op. SouthEast commits to ensuring its long term capacity to continuous improvement of all services.


Members own and control their co-op and this is the essential characteristic of SouthEast. The board represents the members best through its obligation to be representative, accountable and transparent.


SouthEast is committed to the values of cooperation, voluntary membership, democratic control, autonomy & independence, co-op education and cooperation between co-ops.

HFAU2015V2Housing Futures August 2015 has just been published by the SouthEast Housing Co-operative Ltd. This issue is an upgrade from previous issues with an improved layout and paper quality - demonstrating the co-operative's commitment to continuous improvement. It was an upgrade that was being supported by the co-operative's previous General Manager Ian McLaren. The front and second pages pay tribute to Ian who recently died.

Other articles of interest include a report on the General Meeting held on 18 May 2015, Housing and the 2015-2016 Budget, the Australian Senate's Housing Affordability Report, the new emergency maintenance service being provided by the co-operative, three brief book reviews, a report on CHIA and an interview with staff member Dale Carroll.

HousingfuturesAug12The August 2012 issue of Housing Futures is now available - including reports on Member Forums and the General Meeting of members on 16 July 2012, a summary of the submission to the Victorian Government consultation on social housing, reports on the submissions by the Rental Housing Co-operative group and the Community Housing Federation of Victoria and news about rent review, the Co-operators booklet and the Housing Provider Framework.

AR2011The Registrar of Housing Agencies, Mr. Anthony Hardy, has written to SEHC Chairperson, Shirley Faram, praising the 2010-2011 Annual Report. In his letter of 24 February 2012, Mr. Hardy said: "I am pleased to acknowledge that SouthEast Housing Co-operative's 2010-2011 annual report was outstanding. It was distinctive, well laid out and contained sufficient organisational information to allow a good understanding of the co-ops work. It was also good to see recognition for staff and members achievements."
