Our mission is to provide affordable, secure, financially and environmentally sustainable housing for people on low incomes, primarily in the South and East of Melbourne who are committed to cooperative democracy and engagement.


The services provided by SouthEast define its reality as a housing co-op. SouthEast commits to ensuring its long term capacity to continuous improvement of all services.


Members own and control their co-op and this is the essential characteristic of SouthEast. The board represents the members best through its obligation to be representative, accountable and transparent.


SouthEast is committed to the values of cooperation, voluntary membership, democratic control, autonomy & independence, co-op education and cooperation between co-ops.

mffrankston12june201It was a cold evening at the unheated Samuel Sherlock Hall in Quality Street, Frankston but this did not deter a small group of SouthEast members (pictured above) who rugged up to discuss the Victorian Government's consultation on social housing.  Over one and a half hours the discussion was warm, lively and spirited and participants agreed it had been worthwhile - despite the cold evening inside and outside the building. 27fmembers2Forty members attended the general meeting of members between 7:16 - 8:00p.m. on 27 February 2012 at the View Room, Dandenong Club, 1579 Heatherton Road, Dandenong.  The meeting  provided an opportunity to preview the SEHC documentary The Other Way Home and an advertorial.

The guest speaker for the general meeting was the Principal and Chief Executive of the UK Co-operative College, Mervyn Wilson. Mervyn will also be a Key Note speaker at the National Housing Co-operative Conference on 8 March 2012 at Federation Square, Melbourne.
