ACT Shelter has released a discussion paper - Community Housing in the ACT: Options for Growth and Viability. (October 2013) The aim of the discussion paper is to take stock of the ACT community housing sector and consider options for the future growth and viability of community housing.
The discussion paper argues that there is a need to develop a clear Strategic Plan that needs to consider support and capacity development for providers, planning and development levers, innovative positioning across sectors and issues crucial for positive tenant outcomes.
Both the ACT Government and ACT Shelter are opposed to stock transfers but the discussion paper argues that this option should be considered.
In 2012 there were 11.063 public housing and 662 community housing properties in the ACT. Community housing providers include the Environmental Collective Housing Organisation which was formed in 2007 and manages 30 properties with 44 tenants.
