The Council of Social Service of NSW (NCOSS) has released a survey on low to middle income families - The NCOSS Cost of Living Report 2015. The survey was undertaken online and completed by 401 respondents between 18 - 25 June 2015. Families with dependent children with household incomes less than the median (approximately $75,000) were surveyed. The survey was designed by Essential Research in conjunction with NCOSS.
On housing, at least one in five low and middle income families reported they could not afford a decent and secure home (21%), a roof and gutters that don't leak (23%) or a separate bedroom for every child over 10 (20%).The survey also found that 58% were experiencing housing stress and that 32% of sole parent families reported spending more than half of their income on housing.
